Why the Old and New Testament Books Are Arranged the Way

 They Are, And Other Interesting Biblical Facts

Mark Nickens, Doctorate in Church History with concentrations in World Religions and Biblical Studies, will come to your church and lead a fascinating and humorous presentation on why the books of the OT and NT are arranged the way they are.  In the process your church members will learn:

• Is there some reasoned order to the Old and New Testaments or did the order “fall into place” as the centuries progressed?
• Why do the epistles of Peter come after those of Paul and James, even though Peter was the chief apostle under Jesus?
• What criteria did the leaders in the early church use to decide which books would be included in the NT?
• In what year were the 27 books of the NT finally decided?
• Why was Hebrews the most contested book for inclusion in the NT?

In addition, Dr. Nickens will amaze your members with interesting tidbits such as:

• Explaining when chapter and verse divisions were added to the New Testament.
• Telling how we know that Jesus’ ministry lasted 3 years.
• Describing why the Roman Catholic Bible has more books in their OT and why they aren’t in the Protestant OT.
• Detailing some of the books which did not make it into the NT.
• Sharing stories of Jesus as a child (excerpts from books that did not make it into the NT and were made up, but they are humorous).
